American Woman Climber Rescued

AND Pico de VeletaThe Guardia Civil, mountain-rescue team (Sereim) was busy on the last Sunday of the year and amongst their ‘clients’ was a female American climber.

The 33-year-old climber had got into difficulty in Los Calahorros in the Sierra Nevada, which is a craggy and precipitous area, and was found sheltering in a state of shock under a vertical rock face.

After receiving an alert from her, the team was dispatched and after 40 minutes were able to locate her.

The rescue helicopter had to carry out several approach attempts due to the nature of the terrain and the wind.

She was flown directly to Granada Airport from whence she was taken to her hotel in Montefrio, as other than her mental state, she was in a good physical condition.

Earlier in the day the team was called out to the Refugio de Carihuela area of the Sierra Nevada to rescue a 32-year-old man from Cádiz with a fractured hip from a fall.
