The maintenance department of the Town Hall has been busy making changes to street lighting in the village, shaving off 5,000 watts from the municipal lighting bill.

The Caleta or Punta de la Mona end of the Paseo de Andrés Segovia has had its street lighting installations improved. The First Councillor for the village, Juan José Ruiz Joya, explained how four new lampposts had been installed between Hotel Los Fenicios to just past Chambao de Joaquín.
What’s it all about?

The castle hasn’t been lit at night for months now. The Beach is deserted. Bars and Restaurants (particularly those foreign-owned) are closing down, either permanently or until Spring. For example, Legends is gone, closed, vanished, and Manhattan Bar is closed until April. And the Town Hall is now publicly complaining about the increase in the number of stray dogs wandering the streets.
Illuminating the rock…

Good news: there is new lighting on El Peñon del Santo, more commonly known as the cross on the rock.
Although the rock has been illuminated before, it had fallen into disrepair and the work on the new lighting system took so long that some of the new installations deteriorated and broke before the whole was completed. The job fell to the Granada company, Montajes Electricos Mañas about two years ago with a budget of 88,000 euros.
