The First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya, has been hammering on Madrid’s door over the lack of lighting on the village’s A-7 access road.

The council states that he cannot understand that everybody else’s autovia access roads are adequately lit, whilst La Herradura’s languishes in darkness, which, he claims, has already caused road accidents.

In fact, according to Sr Ruiz Joya a report by the Departamento General de Tráfico (National Traffic Department) states that adequate lighting not only diminishes the number of accidents but also reduces their degree of gravity. We’re talking about between 30% to 40% fewer incidents with lighting and with accidents six times more serious without it.
