La Herradura Street Lighting

The maintenance department of the Town Hall has been busy making changes to street lighting in the village, shaving off 5,000 watts from the municipal lighting bill. According to the First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya (PP), this move has been in keeping with an election-campaign pledge.

All along Paseo Andrés Segovia, from one side of the bay to the other, they having been busy replacing existing bulbs for less energy consuming ones. Older lampposts have been replaced in front of Los Novos and near where the Rambla del Espinar reaches the beach road.

Another area that was modified is the Acera del Pilar, where a dozen bulbs have been changed, again for less-energy consuming ones.

But it’s not all about cutting back on energy consumption because some lampposts have been modified to take a second bulb-holder on the rear of the post, increasing the lighting by 700 watts.

Finally, at the top end of the Rambla del Espinar 13 lampposts have been changed, reducing energy consumption but increasing the lighting output. Furthermore in the Cuesta del Espino area seven new lamps have sprung up.

Hell, the maintenance crews have even been out cleaning the glass over the bulbs, to increase the reach of each light!

All in all, the village’s night-time illumination has been given a good overhaul.
