Cashpoints in the Cross Hairs

The IU (far left) party at the Almuñécar Town Hall proposed increasing the tax levied on banks for having cashpoint machines on public rights of way. The motion was passed with all parties voting in favour, except the CA, who abstained.

A Question of Priorities?

The leader of IU, whose party forms part of the ruling coalition of the Regional Government has been busy explaining why he spent public funds on a journey to Palestine; or better said, what the hell the Middle East had to do with his charge as Vice First Minister of the Junta de Andalucia.

Locals’ Opinions Needed

With the imminent remodeling of the Kelibia Square, the almuñécar branch of Izquierda Unida had the following observation to make: “The layout of public space cannot be let up to private companies, which is why it is a mistake not to count on the locals,” stated the IU Spokesman, Fermín Tejero.

Seeing to Believe

The Almuñécar IU councillors have had a look around the Aquarium, accompanied by municipal experts. What they saw convinced them that the people of Almuñécar should see first hand what state it is in.

Abuse of Police Powers?

The left-wing party, IU, has had its complaint accepted by a judge concerning a ‘massive identification’ process, carried out by the authorities during the protests outside the Lower House of Parliament.

Jobs for the Boys?

The party spokesman for the local branch of the Izquierda Unida for Salobreña, Angel Coello, has denounced that the socialist administration under Mayor Gonzalo Pullido intends to increase the number of advisory posts within the town-council administration.

Builders Exploited?

The IU (left-wing political formation) have denounced that builders working on the new junior school in Vélez Benaudalla are being exploited by the building company. Workers on the building site are being made to work 15-hour days, the IU claims.

Los Corrales Dead in the Water?

The Izquierda Unida councillor, Fermín Tejero, has denounced the fact that the Los Corrales project in La Herradura has not stirred in five years. According to the said councillor, the inactive state of the project is down to bad management on the part of the previous municipal administration under Juan Carlos Benavides.
