The leader of the IU, whose party forms part of the ruling coalition of the Regional Government has been busy explaining why he spent public funds on a journey to Palestine; or better said, what the hell the Middle East had to do with his charge as Vice First Minister of the Junta de Andalucia.
The opposition party, the PP, demanded that the said gentleman, Diego Valderas, paid back the 4,000 euros spent on flights (he was accompanied) and explained before the Regional Parliament what ‘use’ the trip was for Andalucia.
Sr. Valderas responded that it was a show of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and accused the conservatives of aligning themselves with Israel.
Whilst Sr. Valderas was in Ramallah, he managed to avoid making controversial statements and defended the intention to ‘intensify’ the cooperation between the Andalucia and the future state of Palestine, where he had attended the inauguration of a school.
