Beach Damage

Torrenueva beach, along with the rest of the Costa Granadina, took a good beating from the gales during mid December. The consequent damage was such that the Provincial Council declared that they would provide technical and financial assistance to restore the beach.

Witch Works

The work on the Rambla de las Brujas, which is the one that runs alongside Al Campo down to the port, will begin this month.

Embellished Beaches

If you walk out to the furthest reaches of the Puerta del Mar beach – in front of the Eroski supermarket – you will have to cover 200 metres before reaching the water. This extensive area of beach is thanks to the parallel breakwater, and in only a few years!

Bye Bye Beach?

The high cost of sorting out the rapidly disappearing beach of Playa Granada, estimated at 15 million euros, probably means that it is not going to get sorted out this side of the Second Coming.

The Drowning

Most of you will have heard something at least about the two Brits that were drowned on the Tesorillo beach – father and son. The day following the incident, which took place on Tuesday the 7th, I received an email from the BBC’s 5Live programme, asking for details and one quick look at the web at the time confirmed that the news was already splashed over the UK. There was a case of probable arson on Velilla Beach last month, where one chiringuito received fire damage valued at 12,000 euros…

Injured by Propeller

A bather on one of Almuñécar’s beaches was injured by a boat’s propeller on the Sunday the 25th of last month, at around 14.00h, when most our beaches were veritably ‘throbbing.’

Groyne Grows Beach

There is good news down Velilla way with the termination of the groyne work. Even in the short time that this beach-protection construction has been working its way out, metre by metre, the beach to the east of it has grown quite noticeably.

Fire Aboard

What a low blow! Just as the summer was set to begin, some bloody pyromaniac incinerated a whole fleet of pedaloes (pedal-powered catamarans).

Windsurf La Herradura

Stopping off at Windsurf La Herradura and pretending I’m still all sporty and fit is always a treat, and on a recent visit I was lucky enough to have a nice long chat with Louis Schraven, who has run the business since 1979.
