ust before Christmas there were high waves that pounded the coastline of Granada. In La Herradura, the gale pushing up from the south had the waves swamping the beach road and even some terraces. The hardest hit part of the beach was between the kiddies’ play park and Peña Parda, with the sea water ‘knocking at the door’ of the secondary school.
The chiringuitos, as you can imagine, took the brunt of it, with Chiringuito Bueno having to board up the windows to protect them from pebbles thrown up by the waves.
Meanwhile Windsurf La Herradura had to double lash down their craft, according to J.M de Haro in the Christmas Eve edition of the Ideal.
All the time the municipal dumper, armed with a scoop had to beetle backwards and forwards removing rocks that had been thrown up onto the road.
Of course, all this didn’t deter the windsurfers, who were out in force and having a ball.
