San Juan Almunecar 2011

San Juan is a youngster’s festival – if you’re in your late teens or twenties, on the beach is a must on the night of San Juan. But it’s not exclusively theirs, because it is also the night for whole families. Childhood memories are always full of this magic night of towering bonfires and partying. Admittedly, parents of kids up to around eight will probably go home soon after the main bonfire is light at midnight, rather than spending the night camped out, but the rest stay, to witness dawn before finally crashing out.

Cotobro Beach Controversy

Today, there was an article in the provincial press, concerning Cotobro Beach, or more accurately, the lack of it: the gale at the beginning of the week had wiped it out. The Town Hall was desperate to repair the damage as the summer season is upon us. The headline was: Botch-job solution for Cotobro Beach

Beach Road Improvements

You will have noticed that where the Las Tejas riverbed crosses the beach road the latest work has left it in a damned civilized manner – no more crocodiles and mantraps… The Espinar might be full of weeds and palm-tree cuttings, which deserves criticism, but this modification at the river mouth deserves praise.

The light aircraft, with several people onboard, was on its way to the airport in Axarquía, in Vélez-Málaga, when the pilot decided to make an emergency landing, due to lack of fuel, on Salobreña’s beach, between the Peñon and La Caleta.

Diver Finds Hidden Drugs

Eight waterproof packages containing a total of 200 kilos of hashish were discovered, anchored just off La Playa del Muerto, which is the one at the far end of Cotobro, accessible via a pathway around the rocks. The submerged ‘goodies’ were discovered by a local diver.

Wave Damage

Just before Christmas there were high waves that pounded the coastline of Granada. In La Herradura, the gale pushing up from the south had the waves swamping the beach road and even some terraces.
