Baza Gets ITV Centre

Baza has always been a bother when it comes to getting a vehicle through an ITV inspection, because the inspections centre was 18 kilometres away. The previous mayor in 1992 managed to get an ITV centre for the area but after a bout of sulking from Guadix, the Junta decided to place it equidistant between the two towns – which pleased nobody.

Mother-in-Law Wasn’t Murdered

A trial by jury concluded with a couple being found ‘not guilty,’ of deliberately shooting the woman’s mother. This was just as well because the man had already been in prison pending trial since 2009. The man, however, was found guilty of the illegal possession of a firearm.

Feria Gastronomica – Herradura

The village celebrated its first Feria Gastronmica – Almunecar style – on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of this month. British Consulate Road Show

The British Consulate in Malaga is holding an informative road show event for British residents in Spain. The event will be taking place on 15th June in the Casa de la Cultura in Alhaurin el Grande, Malaga, and is open to all.

Spanish Politics

The local and regional elections dealt a severe blow to the Central Government; indeed to the whole of the PSOE on a national level. Although Andalucía didn’t hold regional elections, unlike the majority of Spanish autonomous regions, the damage was still keenly felt because over a thousand town halls in Andalucía, as well as provincial councils, participated and were royally smitten.

End of an Era?

Now, with the election night just under a week ago, more information has been forthcoming. For example, the defection of Daniel Barbero from the Mayor’s councillor list had catastrophic results over in La Herradura, which will be covered in that section.

Annual Gastro Fair, Majuelo

First off, a reminder that the annual Gastronomic Fair – this year it’s the 13th anniversary – will be held, as is the custom, in the Parque Botánico, El Majuelo, taking place on the 17th, 18th and 19th.

Flamenco Show

More cultural news, this time in the Casa de la Cultura, where on the 9th of June you will be able to see a flamenco performance to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Escuela de Baile de María Goméz, La Canestera. It will be a special gala event.
