Cyril’s gone, but when you consider that he was born during the Great War (18/02/1915) you can only conclude that he had a bloody good innings.
London-born, Cyril Pierce Davies was a tick-tack man on the hippodromes, travelling all over the country. Maureen tells me that Cyril used to go to work accompanying the boss in a Rolls Royce – it was probably around that time that he picked up his famous Harrods shopping bag… bless him.
He moved out here in the late 70’s, with his wife, Brenda. Tragically, she died nine months later.
Cyril spent the last years of his life as a resident in the German-run, home for the elderly just off the N-340 above Cotobro.
Cyril, who passed away on the 22nd of May, will be remembered for both the Harrods shopping bag and his Spanish sentence. “Solo tengo 25 palabras.” He always stopped to pass the time of day with me and I shall remember him fondly. (Me too… DD).
