Now, with the election night just under a week ago, more information has been forthcoming. For example, the defection of Daniel Barbero from the Mayor’s councillor list had catastrophic results over in La Herradura, which will be covered in that section.
Secondly, the PP, under Trini Hernández has secured the local area council (Mancomunidad) with the necessity of aligning themselves with the Mayor. It should be remembered the PP had the chairman’s seat, occupied by the Mayor of Motril, Carlos Rojas, thanks to favourable voting from the CA, which had the reciprocal benefit of Juan Carlos Benavides landing the Secretary seat.
This arrangement, together with the necessity of a benevolent CA in Salobreña to keep a PP Mayor in office, explains a lot, like why the PP ‘seemingly’ favoured the Juan Carlos Benavides in the Almunecar council meetings, often by simply abstaining when the other opposition parties sought to crush a CA initiative.
But, barring a miracle on the 11th of June when a new mayor will be sworn in, Benny will be packing up his kit in the mayor’s office.
Finally, it is common knowledge that the IU, PA and PSOE will support Trini Hernández as Mayoress, but whether that will be sealed with a formal alliance, which through necessity will require the PSOE’s four councillor votes in favour, or a minority council, remains to be seen.
