Hendersonville Hangs Out

We had a mild invasion of American tourists from the twinned US town of Hendersonville, North Carolina, fulfilling the US Mayor’s promise to ship ’em over to meet European Mexicans in their original habitat.

Nobody Guilty

One of the nationwide trade unions, the CCOO, has expressed its indignation upon hearing of the acquittal verdict over the A-7 bridge disaster, which occurred in November 2005, causing the loss of six lives. Consequently, the CCOO is studying the possibility of submitting an appeal.

It’s Silly Season!

There was a small fire at the beginning of March on the garden terraces, behind the Edif. La Roca block of flats, which is more or less where the Paseo del Altillo ends and where Paseo Prieto Moren begins.

HMS Ledbury Visit

Members and guests of Almuñecar Branch of the Royal Naval Association recently had the opportunity to visit a Royal Navy vessel, HMS Ledbury, while she was alongside in Málaga. The ship, which is also the oldest in the RN at 31, also has the dubious honour of being the first RN ship to deploy during 2012, having left Portsmouth in early January.

Seven Arrested in Drug Bust

The Policia Nacional arrested seven people, the majority of whom are from Almuñécar, in an anti-drugs police operation carried out in this coastal town. Some of those arrested belong to the same family.

Misplaced Luxury?

The present Almuñécar administration has released details of what appears to be unjustifiable expenses made by the previous Benavides administration, namely nearly 1,800 euros spent on taxi rides to Madrid and back.

Reina Sofia’s Beer Menu

Miguel at Almuñécar’s Restaurante Reina Sofía is doing a special menu to accompany five special beers. The six-course tasting menu comprises of Aperitif, Salad, Entree, Fish dish and Meat dish, each one accompanied by a different top-class beer. The meal is rounded off with a dessert.

The Untouchables?

This article is neither about Eliot Ness nor a Hindu caste, but about the Almuñécar town hall, and the title reflects the words chosen by the Mayor’s office to describe certain tradesmen and contractors that allegedly had no problem getting paid for their services under the ex-Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides, whilst others were far from that ‘fortunate.’

La Avenida de Cala

Residents will have noticed that the pavement in front of the Beep computer shop, next to the municipal market, is undergoing reform work. The adjustments to the pavement is being made in accordance to a request received from the Semana Santa brotherhoods, who find that their throne bearers often come a cropper there.
