You might have spotted a lot of anglers on La Herradura beach this weekend just gone, as there was a provincial, fishing competition held there.

The event was the penultimate round of the Granada Provincial Fishing Circuit, featuring the beach (shore-casting) modality.
Over 30 participants from various provincial clubs competed, including a 13-year-old, as the youngest angler. Pesca Rincón de Gójar had the most participants. The other fishing clubs were: Pesca Alborán, Pesca de Dauro, and Club de Pesca Costa Tropical, with members from Almuñécar and La Herradura
Now, when we say, you might have noticed, it is in fact, doubtful as it is really a night activity, running from 19:15h. (sunset) until midnight. But, hey, people have been known to have a walk on the beach with the mutt in the dark, although you wouldn’t have been very popular with your hound running around barking, of course.
The competition was split into two, 3-hour rounds, with fishing positions randomly assigned by a draw. The tournament consists of three divisions: Women (18+), Absolute (18+), and Mixed Youth (under 18), with trophies for the top three in each.
The competition has already been held in Freila (at the Negratín Reservoir), Huéscar, Loja, Arenas del Rey (at the Bermejales Reservoir), Salobreña, and Colomera. The final trial in this provincial competition will be held in Motril on the 27th of November.
