Now British people, for whom queuing is sacred and arguably an Olympic Sport for them, queuing in Spain seems chaotic and decidedly foreign. Nationals from other European countries are not much impressed either.

But there is an order to it, which is not immediately obvious but it all boils down to asking the simple question, “Who’s the last in the queue?” Putting aside the inevitable wag who responds, “You,” it’s just a case of waiting until that individual, identified as the last in the queue gets served.
God forbid that you should think that if somebody who is not actually standing in a line is not part of the queue beware of those sitting or at the entrance smoking a fag. Furthermore, when you ask, it normally starts a conversation with “I’m behind you, who is before you? This eventually settles down though.
Beware the queue dodger who saunter’s to the front with a, “Oh I’m just going to ask a quick question and won’t take a sec… – it’s a lie and they are to be cursed roundly in silence and bombarded with raised eyebrows until they decist.
Now, to the point of the article – yes there is one: somebody got stabbed in a queue in Valladolid over the who is who in the great order of queue.
This occurred around 20.00h earlier in the week in a supermarket cashout. The police were called and when they arrived it was to see two men wrestling, one with blood all over his face. The officers parted the two men and questioned them and eyewitnesses with what the hell was happening?
The answer was that somebody had jumped the queue (*Gasp!*) and not before long an exchange that put into question the sexual orientation of a father and the midnight profession of a mother had produce a knife, which was used with enthusiam, delivering two slash wounds to the face and one to the arm.
The aggressor with the knife was arrested for death threats and grevious bodily harm, as well as damaging property. The officers offered to take the victim to a medical centre to have his wounds attended to but he refused the offer, saying that he would make his own way there – being seen in the back seat of a police car was obviously not on his bucket list.
