Beachfront Road Pedestrianised

The Mayor of Salobreña has announced that they will be continuing with the plan to turn the beachfront paseo into a pedestrian-only area.

The paseo from Salomar 2000 to the river has already been made over to pedestrian use and according to the announcement, work will commence next week and will affect the paseo up to the Restaurante El Molino.

In other words, that is 338 metres of paseo that will be lost to parking and access for delivery vehicles, perhaps, for such establishments as the Rey del Boquerón and the new chiringuito, El Borroco.

In the place of the road there will be leisure areas, green zones, etc. Another change will be the elimination of the low wall separating the beach from the paseo in order to “integrating the two spaces.”

As for the eliminated parking spaces, residents and visitors will have to use the new, large parking area near the bus station on the other side of the main road, and catch a bus in. It’s a park-and-ride arrangement.

Mayor Javier Ortega Prados said that they are already speaking with the dreaded Costas with the aim of completing the rest of the paseo in this way up to Restaurante El Peñón.

There is quite a lot of pushback against this move, which you can read about in one of our previous articles.

Editorial comment: they’re going to start digging up the paseo a couple of weeks before Semana Santa?
