Paseo Project Opposition

The Salobreña branch of the PP together with PMás, and backed Vox, have requested an Extraordinary Plenary Meeting of the Town Council concerning plans for the seafront paseo.

This request appears to be backed by traders and businesses along the paseo because of the general concern in the sector about the possibility of the Mayor turning it into a pedestrian precint.

This, many believe, would have negative consequences for the area’s economic activity and consequently jobs and general access to the beach.

To force the governing party (PSOE) to call a Plenary Meeting, a third of the 17 councillors belonging to the Town Council need to back it. They have six (PP 3, PMás 2 & Vox 1) so they have enough.

These opposition parties want the plans for the paseo revised and to have adequate consent, prioritising a mixed and balanced area for pedestrians, parking and controlled traffic circulation, in order to guarantee the viability of businesses along the paseo.

“Salobreña needs to advance, but also to listen to those who live or work there every day,” said Juan de Dios Márquez Moya, Spokesperson for the  PP in Salobreña.
