Car Theft in Motril

Two high-end vehicles have been stolen recently in Motril, which the Policía Nacional are investigating to see if there is any connection between the two cases.

One of the victims had parked his car in the Playa Granada area on the 29th of August around 21.30h. Two hours later when he decided to go back to it, it had gone.

The car was a Toyota valued at 50,000 euros. The thief or thieves had deactivated the car-tracking system as soon as they got into it before driving it off.

The Guardia Civil had also noted a surge in car theft in the metropolitan area of Granada during the summer and although it is rumoured that several instances of vehicle theft have taken place in Motril, the Policía Nacional only have knowledge of two cases.

In the case of the Granada area, quite of few of the stolen vehicles were later used in crimes such as ram raiding to gain access, or as getaway cars in hold-ups.

A classical example was the incident in Padul where a stolen car was used to ram the main entrance to a warehouse containing cured-ham legs, getting away with a booty of seven pieces with a total value of 1,000 euros — the damage to the front of the business will probably cost a lot more than 1,000 euros to put right, not to mention the damage caused to the stolen vehicle.

The source article from Ideal gives no details concerning the second, high-end vehicle in Motril stolen within one week of the theft of the Toyota.
