The Festival Aéreo Internacional de Torre del Mar is all set for take off this Sunday, the 7th, starting at 11.00h.
Aircraft from the UK and France will be in the sky above Torre del Mar, or more accurately over the sea in front of the town. But residents will hear the aircraft long before that because on Friday and Saturday they will see practice seasons, although there is no set schedule.
On the big day, the flypast and aerobatics will take place between 11:00h and 15.30h, so make sure you have your spot on the beach in order to get a good view of the air show.
Spanish Air Force A Eurofighter Typhoon from the EA Demo Team belonging to the 14th Wing, will be a top dish on the menu. It’s commanding officer participated in the Paris flypast display during Bastille Day on the 14th of July.
Juan Velarde, is considered one of the best pilots in the world air-race competitions – the Red Bull Air Race where he was the only Spanish pilot from 2014 to 2019. When he’s not competing in air races, he relaxes behind the controls of an Airbus A330, as he is a professional airline pilot for Iberia.
Aerobatics will be supplied by a Zivko Edge 540 V2 which is an extremely light aircraft (540kgs) with a 320-horsepower engine allowing it to reach speeds of over 400 kph. This aircraft will be piloted by Camilo Benito, who went from programming flight simulators to becoming one of the best pilots in this style.
Back to the international participants, there will be the UK’s Team Raven, which is one of the best civilian formation acrobatic teams in Europe, made up of seven experienced pilots at the controls of Vans RV-8 aluminium aircraft.
Also participating is the Spanish Air Force helicopter display team, Patrulla Aspas, which is based at the Armilla military aerodrome in Granada.
As for jumping out of completely serviceable aircraft.. the Guardia Civil, skydiving team will also be present, as well as units from the Spanish Navy and the Policía Nacional, among many others.
