Saturday the 19th saw the port holding its 12th Open Day, which is always held on the day of the Patron Saint of Mariners, La Virgen del Carmen.
It was a fantastic chance to see the whole of the port, with a large area under a marquee with all kinds of police-personnel equipment. The Port Police, the Policia Nacional and the Guardia Civil and Maritime Rescue all participated.

It was very family friendly with an educational flavour for children, as well as adults. There were bus tours around the port installations. There were also boat trips around the inside of the port, allowing visitors to view the port from the sea.
Visitors could also visit the SAR Mastelero and the Salvamar Gienah belonging to the Maritime Rescue Service, as well as the Río Segura patrol boat (pictured above) belonging to the Civil Guard and the Tagomago, which is a Spanish Navy patrol ship.
There were workshops (Aula de Mar) and stands with material exhibits belonging to each police force, with everything from radio equipment to motorbikes.
