There has been new building work going on behind the Marina del Este, which has not escaped the notice of the PSOE opposition party, nor many residents.
Its Spokeswoman, Rocio Palacios, formally asked the Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, in a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council, why he issued modifications to the 1987 General Urban Deveopment Plan (PGOU) that were published in the Official Provincial Gazette on the 18th of June, concerning a new urbanización above the Marina del Este.

She asked why he should “modify” this document when the new one is in the pipelines, awaiting only the final approval from the Junta; i.e., the last step.
“What was the reason behind the governing party publishing this modification?” she asked, continuing, “Is the governing party recognising in this way that residents of Marina del Este had made an official complaint before the law courts over the construction of new housing on land categorised as non-building land?”
She considers that these manoeuvres by the Mayor’s party are very strange and he will have to give a good explanation for them.
Editorial comment: the amount of housing on the hillside behind the Marina de Este already far exceeds the original design of the marina, without even more building now going up on the hillside. It is also indeed suspicous that the Mayor hurriedly pushes this modification through, seemingly upon learning of the court case opened against the new urbanizacíon.
