Airshow Success

Despite the heat, the Motril Airshow yesterday was a success, yet again, with a huge crowd turning out to witness the 15 military and civil aircraft that participated in the event.

The display, which lasted over two hours, had the well toasted spectators, numbering around 150,000, following the spectacular aerial manoeuvres carried out by such military aircraft as the Spanish Air Force’s F-18 Hornet and the Tiger Demo Team from Poland in F-16s.

Quite apart from the spectators, the participants numbered around 100 personnel – just the Polish flying team numbered 30 between pilots and ground crew.

Not all military aircraft were fixed-wing aircraft because there was also the HA-24 Tiger attack helicopter and the Spanish Air Force’s helicopter, display-team Patrulla ASPA which is based in the Alhendín air base near the city of Granada.

Civilian aerobatic aircraft such as the Pilatus PC-9M which is a Swiss design, single-engine aircraft, held adults and kids enthralled down below on the beach. There was also the CAP 10C (Italy) and a Cessna 150.

Also participating was an Infoca helicopter (Bell 212) with an underslung water bucket (bambi) and a gyrocopter.

As for money, it is calculated that the event probably generated around two million, not only for Motril, but also the surrounding area and as for costs, somewhere between 35,000 and 40,000 euros, provided by sponsors.
