A man in his mid 60s fell to his death in Lanjarón Saturday afternoon, according to the emergency coordination centre (112).

The accident took place in the area of Río Lanjarón not long before 17.10h, which was when 112 received an alert.

The 67-year-old man was part of a group of climbers when he slipped and fell some 40 metres, leaving him unconscious and badly injured.

The Grupo de Rescate e Intervención en Montaña (Greim) belonging to the Guardia Civil were despatched, along with an ambulance, the Policía Local and Protección Civil.

The rescue team arrived in their helicopter at the scene of the fall but there was nothing that could be done for him.
