The Salobreña Public Works & Maintenance Department has been at work clearing excess vegetation from the Vial Verde Playa.
That, if you are not sure, is the long stretch of green area running behind the beach second line from just below the Parque de La Fuente all the way along. It is supposed to be an elongated, narrow “park” for pedestrians and cyclists.

They’re doing it now because the grass and weeds are drying out fast and are becoming a tinder box if not cut back.
The Head of this department, Juan Gutiérrez, explained that they are using heavy machinery (JCBs) and work will carry on for the next few weeks, because as well as the cutting-back operation, they will also be installing a new watering system for the trees.
Another point that they will be tackling is the rectification of deficient manhole covers and inspection covers in general that will trip up the unwary. They’re even contemplating paving a footpath and putting in street lighting.
Editorial comment: God I hate it when two politicians block a good photo because they think that they are more interesting that what is going on behind them! But if you’re going to use press-release photos from a town hall, that’s what you can expect.
