Ex-Mayor, Juan Carlos Benavides, who is the Spokesman for Convergencia Andaluza, has accused the ruling party of wanting to turn the municipal radio station into a party mouthpiece.

He points out that the present-day Mayor, wants to do away with regulatory rules that govern Almuñécar’s radio station.

For this reason, during a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council at the end of March his party called for this move to be reversed and any alteration to the radio’s constitution to be done through the correct legal channels stipulated in Article 11 of the Regulatory Rules

Benavides pointed out that the governing party (PP) had already attempted this in December 2024 but was forced to withdraw it thanks to the opposition parties.

This time, claims Councillor Benavides, Mayor Ruiz Joya has decided to get rid of the whole set of rules rather than alter them.

Finally, the CA claims that since is was closed down in 2018 and brought back into being, the PP uses it exclusively for their propaganda and cedes no space to the opposition parties.

Editorial comment: It’s a bit rich that Benny is complaining about this because when he had a majority in the Town Council a decade or two ago, he did precisely what he is now accusing the Mayor of, bless his cotton socks.
