The Almuñécar opposition party, the PSOE, has called on the Mayor to stop issuing “propaganda” and to face, once and for all, the building of a new high school in La Herradura.
The construction of a new school has been a constant demand by parents associations, as well as the local branch of the PSOE for the last ten years, they claim.

Local Secretary General, Juan Moreno, explained that Mayor Ruiz Joya “Hasn’t even offered a plot of 8,000 sq/n to the Junta on which to build the school, preferring to “act as a community manager on social media.”
“The village high school cannot continue to exist under these circumstances under which it finds itself,” said Sr. Moreno, adding, “This is an urgent necessity that needs to be remedied now!”
The PSOE put forward a motion for a sum to be approved and set aside from the municipal budget for the purchase of the plot so that its acquisition could begin but the motion was rejected in the Plenary Meeting of the Town Council on the 27th of March, thanks to the votes against by the ruling majority.
Party Spokeswoman, Rocío Palacios, emphasised the fact that the ruling party has occupied the Mayoralty for the last 14 years yet it has been incapable of finding a suitable plot for the new high school.
“And that is despite the fact that Juanjo Ruiz Joya used to be the First Councillor of La Herradura and is now the Mayor of Almuñécar,” she added.
