The opposition party, Almuñécar Unida (IU) has shown its support for the announced remodeling of Costa del Sol Avenue.
They support the project because they say that this an area that has long been overlooked and are especially please about a roundabout that will replace the T-junction with the riverside Calle Guadix.
However, they did expressed concern about the lack of clear information about the future of the existing trees along the avenue.
It’s worth pointing out that Avenida Costa de Sol was the old N-340, which entered the top of town before coming out where the main road gasolinera is (Las Palomas) which is why it has the same very old trees lining it as the N-340 does between the gasolinera and the P-4 junction.
Party leader, Francisco Fernández has underlined the importance of preserving the those trees (plane trees): “The trees along Av. Costa del Sol have long provided shade and provide great environmental and heritage value,” adding, “It is essential that the Mayor guarantees residents that these trees will be respected within the remodeling project.”
He also recalled the fact that Almuñécar lost some very old trees that once adorned the old Paseo del Altillo, a centenary Chilean pine amongst them.
