Idiots & Dolphins

Jet skis are the bane of the coast, because of the unrelenting noise they produce and because of the irresponsible behaviour of some who put others at risk.

Yes, some give a bad name for the rest but they really do themselves no favours when they start chasing dolphins and their young.

There were numerous complaints following the appearance of a pod of dolphins with calfs amongst them, that had approached to within a few hundred yards of the Playa Puerta del Mar only to be pursued by two idiots on jet skis, blarring loud music, who had seemingly decided to go out and give chase.

Witnesses were up in arms because simply to see these creatures approach the coast is a gift, so when the scourge of the seaside in summer speed off to intercept them, then people get angry.

One thing is that dolphins come to your boat and swim alongside, dodging in and out of your bow wave, and quite another is this kind of irresponsible, selfish behaviour.

One day the Law will finally ban them, definitively from the waters off our beaches, altogether, because quite frankly their presence is little better than bikers burning rubber and doing wheelies on the streets of our towns.

It will be a pity for the nautical-leisure companies, which hire them out under responsible conditions, to deny them this income because they are as much the victims of these reckless, private, jet-ski owners as dolphins & other sea life, as well as those that have to put up with the noise all through the summer.
