Salobreña Town Council has applied for a grant for “exceptional situations” which are available from the Junta de Andalucia.
This is thanks to a Junta Decree intended to repair the damage caused by the DANA in Andalucia. Salobreña hopes to obtain 42,515 euros, for recovery work in the affected areas.
The Mayor of Salobreña, Javier Ortega, has highlighted the importance of these grants for the future of the municipality, pointing out that “We are working hard to put right the damage caused by the DANA and are carrying out preventive actions in the black spots detected in case new storms occur, thus improving the quality of life of our residents.”
The Councillor responsible for Subsidies, María Rodríguez Alonso, has underscored the effort made by the government team to access these grants, “We have worked exhaustively in preparing the applications, presenting all the necessary documentation to justify the need for these investments.”
Editorial comment: it is true that as soon as the Mayor learnt of what had happened in Valencia he pulled all the town’s maintenance workers from the tasks they were already working on, directing them to make sure all the rain drains were completely cleaned out. Thankfully, when Salobreña did get heavy rains, there was no flooding at the entrance to town nor in the Pontanilla area, where it inveriably floods.
