Segovia Guitar Competition

Chinese guitarist Fan Shilong won the XXXIX Certamen Internacional de Guitarra Clásica – Andrés Segovia in La Herradura.

In fact, he not only won First Prize worth 10,000 euros and a special edition guitar made by luthier Stephen Hill, but he also took the Diego Martínez award endowed with 1000 in travel expenses euros, so that he could play in the 2025 Festival Noches del Castillo in La Herradura.

This prize is awarded by the audience rather than the panel of judges, as the “most appreciated player.”

Fan Shilong is not stranger to the Andrés Segovia competition in La Herradura as he has come third in two previous editions, but he was determined to take the First Prize, “because it is a very important award for any guitarist and a pride to have achieved it,” he said after receiving the awards.

The Second Prize went to the Germano-Russian guitarist, Igor Klokovdotado, which was worth 4,000 euros, a Martínez-Lázaro modelo Double top guitar, especially made for luthiers from Granada, Francisco Lázaro and Javier Martínez.

Third Prize went to the the Russian guitarist, Vera Danilina, which was worth 2,000 euros and a special Sulayr guitar was for the Russian guitarist, Vera Danilina.

The Ukrainian guitarist, Yaroslava Ihnatenco won the Leo Brouwer award, worth 700 euros, for the best interpretation of mandatory piece (En Los Trigales by Joaquín Rodrigo).

And finally, the Asociación Amigos de La Herradura award for the youngest competitor in the first round, worth 300 euros, went to 19-year-old Lucía Reyes from Granada.

In the closing act, the Mayor thanked the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra for accompanying to the guitarists in the last round of the competition.
