Search for Missing Light Aircraft

The Guardia Civil have been operating a land and air search for a missing light aircraft, using their helicopter and ground units.

Contact was lost with the aircraft around 09.30h yesterday when in was over the area of Puebla de Don Fadrique (North-East Granada) near Santiago de La Espada-Pontones.

It had taken off from Totana Aerodrome in Murcia with two people on board; a married couple in their 50s, who often flew over the area of Beas de Segura, according to the Guardia Civil.

The aircraft took off at 08.30h and the pilot called using his phone to say that they were between Santiago de La Espada and La Puebla de Don Fabrique, and that it was so cloudy that he was thinking of turning back. Suddenly the call went dead.

Also joining the search are Infoca air units, ACT TA2 and TA3. Infoca also sent out its observation and command aircraft (ACO-4) but it had to return to Granada Airport after exhausting its flight time.
