The Good Samaritan

If it were not for a German resident out walking in the Gualchos area passing by a cortijo, a small dog that he came across would probably have died.

SPN Seprona genericHe saw the dog; a small Yorkshire Terrier (cross), convulsing on the road and didn’t think twice to scoop it up and take it to a vet in nearby Motril.

The dog, aged around five but with no microchip, was in a deplorable state, explained the veterinary surgeon, so Seprona, belonging to the Guardia Civil, were informed.

Consequently, they are investigating an individual, aged 63, believed to be its owner thus responsible for the state the dog was in and who could faces charges of animal cruelty through neglect. The dog was a bag of bones with sores all over.

    Sadly it seems, many Spanish people of a certain age really are awful in their treatment of dogs, cats and horses, plus, of course, livestock.

    Perhaps it’s something ingrained from previous strife in this country, so they do not care as much as we think they should. A bit like some of the treatment of animals over the med.

    Anyway, they will answer eventually. The courts here do not seem to worried though!
