The Province of Málaga has seen three incidents involving pedestrians in just one day, one of which was a case of a hit-and-run.
The last of the three occurred Tuesday night in Arroyo de La Miel on Avenida Antonio Machado, involving an 8-year-old, British boy. He was hit by a bus and rushed to the Hospital Materno Infantil in the city of Málaga. The driver was breathalysed but gave a negative reading.
Earlier that same day, but in the morning, a 12-year-old boy was hit by a car while on his way to school in Torremolinos. The driver fled the scene after the accident. Consequently, the Policía Local began to track down the driver. He was arrested the next day, actually onboard a plane, waiting for take-off, bound for Manchester, so we can hazard a guess at his nationality.
The accident occurred at around 09.15h actually on a zebra crossing just 800 metres from the victim’s school, I.E.S Concha Méndez Cuesta (high school). The lad is hospitalised with a skull fracture.
Finally, later in the morning, a 4-year-old toddler was struck by a commuter train in Torremolinos, near Montemar Alto. He remains hospitalised under observation

I realise that pedestrians have to be protected. As do cyclists. But so many of both types, just seem oblivious to common sense and cars and lorries tend to win.
Examples are pedestrians that are either crossing the road without glancing up from their mobiles or chatting away as you do. Either at zebra crossings or just anywhere that suits them. Just a lift of the head to make eye contact with any driver is enough.
Drivers should have slowed anyway, but should have etc.
Many times zebra crossing are either completely blocked by a car or cars are right up to the crossing. So you cannot always see smaller persons walking straight out onto the crossing. Zig-zag, no-parking lines are the best option for safety and visability. Then pause, glancing both ways will save your body a lot of pain.
Many cyclists still go from road to pavement at will, turn across traffic as if it weren’t there, ignore red traffic lights, or go the wrong way up one-way streets.
I understand that is changing to allow that? I think that’s a mistake. Dont ask me about indicators and roundabouts. I have become very Spanish in outlook. I hope for the best.
