Air Europa Cyber Attack

It seems that not only the city of Granada was hit by Russian hackers but also the charter airline, Air Europa, causing a breach in user privacy details on Tuesday.

GRA Air Europa 400x250The company sent out emails to numerous travellers who had recently purchased tickets, urging them to immediately cancel their bankcards. The reason was that the hackers had obtained all the bankcard info and were able to use it to make purchases.

In other words, they obtained the complete number, its expiration date and the CVV (three-digit security code that is requested in online purchases to certify that the user physically has the card in their possession).

Air Europa assured that cyber-criminals had not accessed other Air Europa databases, in any way, or extracted other types of personal information from customers.

Air Europa maintains that, for the moment, “There is no evidence that the leak was used to commit any fraud.” This, they say, has been due to “the detection and rapid intervention of their IT team who quickly blocked the security breach and prevented the leak of any new data.”
