Jean Louis Andreck, owner of CK photography on the Paseo de San Cristóbal in Almuñécar, (near Hotel Almuñécar Playa) passed away today.
His wake has been taking place since this morning at the Zumaquero y Martínez funeral home, Room Three, while his funeral will be this afternoon, at 16:30h, at Almuñécar’s main church, the Parroquia de la Encarnación.
Jean Louis was one of the first foreigners to settle in Almuñécar, arriving in the late 60s, accompanied by a guitar and camera. He soon made a living from photography there, opening in in his heyday two studios (the other one was on Calle Real).
He had a collection of vintage cameras on display at this studio, which not only dealt with photgraphy but video and other visual mediums.
It was also in the 80s (I believe) that he lost a leg in a helicopter accident whilst taking shots of the Sierra Nevada.
Jean Louis was more than just a man; he was an institution.
Editorial comment: I’ve done most of this from memories but there is likely to be inaccuracies concerning dates – sorry.
