At least seven people have died in a fire affecting three nightlife venues in Murcia in the early hours of today.
Reporting on the three nightclubs, Golden, Teatre and Fonda, this morning in Murcia gave the figure of seven dead but there could be more, although it is not known in which of the three premises the bodies were recovered.
Eyewitnesses point out that there are at least eight people with whom they have not been able to contact since the fire started.
The fire started in the early hours in one of the nightclubs, spreading to the others.
The missing people belong to the same group of friends who had been celebrating a birthday on the upper floor of the disco where the fire started. Fire personnel have had difficulty reaching the area where the friends reported missing were because of structural damage.
According to the Emergency Coordination Centre, 112, four other people were affected by smoke inhalation, of which two required hospital treatment. Those injured are two women and two men, aged between 22 and 45 years of age.
The fire required at least 40 firefighting personnel and 12 fire vehicles, as well as several ambulances and police units.
One of the nightclubs, the Teatre de Murcia, had previously suffered a fire on June the 21st, 2009. There were 50 people inside but fortunately nobody was injured.
