Reader: Noisy Light Aircraft

A reader writes in to mention the noise generated by light aircraft from a nearby aerodrome doing circuits over La Herradura.

Readers Letter 400x250

Dear All living in La Herradura,

Since a few months there is a constant noise pollution, especially over the Cerro Gordo area of town, caused by hobby airplanes located at the Vélez-Málaga Airport.

I watched the routes on flight radar and they had the brilliant idea of doing their practice circling right over our area.

I am sure, and have talked to other inhabitants of my neighbourhood, that I am not the only one bothered by this unnecessary noise.

Is there anything that can, or has been done, to stop this? It cannot be legal?

Would appreciate comments on this subject.

Best regards

Frederic Messinger

In reply to this message of 2023 – they are much worse now in 2025.
Almost every day (including weekends) they fly overhead repeatedly and, as they are above us all, they impose on residents not only in La Herradura but surely Nerja, Maro, and Almuñécar.
Clearly we need facilities to train new pilots but the extent to which they impose must be considered a public nuisance.
Hopefully it’s only a matter of time before many more residents start to voice opinions as the tranquility of our area is further threatened.

Marie: how very dare you… I ride a motorbike!!! Quietly, of course. 😉

Well… if we’re complaining about noise pollution… How about those Vespas and the like?
As much as governments are pushing for electrical vehicles, it’ll be nice if they included motorcycles. Just saying. ????‍♀️

BB: Not as noisy underwater, perhaps? 😉

Oh the noise. I’m surrounded by cicadas, there are two pigeons coo-ing on the wire outside the house and there are what sounds like a squadron of Bee Eaters above us.

    Don’t they know it’s Sunday?

OMG, you two, get a life!

I am more worried about the small helicopters that swoop down over the bay then buzz the town and the Punta. If their engine fails we will be in for a major catastrophe, legal or not this type of flying is risky.
