Almuñécar Town Hall has opened up an extra, summer parking area on public land in Taramay
The area, which is next to the Parque El Pozuelo and the BMX course, has room for 200 vehicles. Readers might remember it was where the municipal fire service was temporarily housed.
The Councillor for Traffic, Luis Aragón, explained that municipal workers had put the finishing touches to it and that a municipal, bus line goes past this area, running from the morning up to midnight, linking the parking to the town centre, as well as further along eastwards to the Cabria Beach area.
The parking came on line yesterday and is managed by Cáritas Parroquial (church charity). Its representative, Inmaculada Corral, explained that it operates 24 hours a day and costs 50 centimes an hour. She said that there would also be day-passes available.
This parking area joins the other summer-parking one next to the Medical Centre where there is room for 100 vehicles.
Editorial comment: Great, but come the second week of August they will close down the town’s largest surface parking area for three weeks to make way for the fairground attractions and political casetas. Why not put the feria in Taramay on the provision parking area, as it has good bus connections, and leave the Friday Market square free for parking all summer long?
