Castle Work Second Phase

Salobreña Town Hall has opted for a grant worth three million to carry out the second phase of restoration work on the castle.

The grant comes from the Ministerio de Industria, Comercio y Turismo, in line with an EU project entitled Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia. In short, distant dosh.

The money, once, or better said, if, received will be spent not only on conservation and maintenance but also on AI for virtual visits/online bookings and more efficient and cost effective lighting. Some will also go on gardening around its base (Paseo de Las Flores, etc).

Of course, work will take place to improve access for people with mobility problems, as well as open up areas previously closed to the public.

The Mayor said, “We are one of the few Town Halls in Spain that can opt for this grant and in fact, we are in a very good position, as we have long been working on this project and have all the boxes ticked.”

The grant will cover 100% of the needed funds for the budget, which, as a minimum is 750,000 euros but could reach three million.
