Finally, this Wednesday, underground parking beneath the Salobreña municipal market was opened for public use.
The parking facilities has space for 30 vehicles: 28 spaces + 2 reserved for handicapped drivers.
This will be welcomed by drivers as this part of town is a nightmare for parking with drivers having to do a couple of laps with the hope that they’ll see somebody just coming out of a parking space.
The parking, unlike the municipal market above it, will be open 24 hours a day, all through the year. Furthermore, weekly, monthly and yearly tickets are available.
Councillor for Traffic, Ignacio Trujillo, said that there had long been a demand for public, underground parking and its existence should revitalise the municipal market and the surrounding shops & businesses.
The car park was originally built in 2017 but it has never been opened until now, owing to a variey of problems. This September, a lease contract was awared and the bid winner set about installing all the necessary equipment for a fully automated system including CCTV security cameras.
