Tragic Emergency Bungle

The Almuñécar Policía Local are far from euphoric over something that happened in the early hours of the 12th of October.

The communique reads:

“Around 03.22 and 47 second [about?] on the 12th the police, call centre 092 received an alert from 112 about a medical emergency in a home in the centre of town.

Several minutes before the alert was received the Guardia Civil in Almuñécar had called for the assistance of the municipal police as they have defibrillators in their patrol cars. In that moment, there was only the communication between the two police forces concerning this emergency.

When the local police officers arrived at the dwelling they found the 45-year-old victim who had died of a heart attack. The ambulance arrived at the same time. Thirty minutes had elapsed between a relative making the emergency call and the arrival of the officers and ambulance.”

In short, the communique is highly critical of the 112 emergency service

Firstly, 112 contact the Guardia Civil instead of the Policía Local (who have defibrillators) which is the opposite of normal procedure in these cases. The result is that the municipal police arrived too late from no fault of their own. Secondly, the ambulance was sent to the wrong address by 112.

For this reason the Almuñécar Policía Local are demanding a full enquiry.
