The city police in Granada were out picking flowers, skipping... and carrying out speed-control one Thursday last month on the Alfacar road when a speeding bike peeled the paint off their hand radar.
They were impressed, naturally, but overly optimistic because they tried to wave him down, which turned into a wave goodbye instead. Still keen, they set off in pursuit and soon caught up with Mr Rocket in the direction of the Paseo de Cartuja.
Now with the patrol car in the side mirrors, with its lights going, the rider decided that the pavement was a good option so he then hurtled along that. The police opted to remain on the road.
Bored with the pavement, he reincorporated his panting, combustion kite onto the road, which was when he hit a car — a painful option. And that’s where the chase ended but wait! There’s more!
The reason that the biker tried to get away was because he didn’t have a valid licence, no bike insurance and no ITV. OK, so you saw that coming, but what you didn’t expect was that the driver he collided with didn’t have a valid licence either. How unlucky is that! No doubt they will have plenty to chat about in prison…
Actually, that is not going to happen because neither will get more than two years, which is automatically a suspended sentence. However the fines are impressive: 1,000 euros for driving without an insurance, 200 for not having an ITV and 500 for driving without a licence. Then there’s the little matter of dangerous driving for the biker…
