Salvamento Marítimo brought in 19 illegal immigrants to Motril Port in the early hours of yesterday.
All were in good health and are of Maghreb origin (North-West Africa). They were picked up about twelve nautical miles off Cabo Sacratif (Motril).
The Sistema Integrado de Vigilancia Exterior (coastal radar and infrared cameras) detected the small boat around 21.00h on Tuesday night. They informed Salvamento Marítimo, which in turn despatched the sea-rescue launch, Salvamar Gienah.
The launch located the boat around 01.30h and after transferring them aboard and having taken the open boat in tow, they head back to Motril Port, arriving around 04.00h. As soon as the arrived, they were attended to by volunteers from the Spanish Red Cross.
