Yesterday evening a BMW driven by a learner driver took the Paella roundabout in Motril too fast and ended up against a tree on the pavement.
In the car were a total of three, possibly four, passengers, all about the same age as the 19-year-old driver.
The passengers rapidly disappeared when the car came to rest after completely flattening a lamppost and hitting a palm tree.
An eyewitness called the accident in to 112 at 22.37h so it would have taken place around 22.30h.
According to the eyewitness, the driver attempted to leave the roundabout too fast along Avenida de Salobreña, over accelerating, causing the vehicle to fish tail before he lost control completely of the vehicle.
The police, the Motril fire service and an ambulance arrived soon afterwards, followed later by a breakdown lorry.
It is not known whether the driver had been drinking but it is more than likely that his father, the owner of the car, will have needed a glass or two when he received the news.
