The Policía Nacional based in Motril arrested 14 individuals; five women and nine men, for drug trafficking.
Those arrested were a mixture of Moroccan and Spanish citizens, aged between 26 ad 45 and with half of them having criminal records.
They have been charged with drug trafficking, association with a criminal organization and the theft of electricity.
The drugs found and confiscated were quantities of hashish, cocaine, marihuana and MDMA.
When the police searched the homes of the suspects, they found that one of them had an indoor plantation with 38 plants under cultivation (and the illegal hook-up).
This police action was part of Operación Fly, which was carried out in two parts, which came about when they got wind of a gang selling drugs in the more conflictive areas of Motril; i.e., the barrios of Huerta Carrasco, San Antonio and Varadero.
The first phase was to investigate how the gang was getting the drugs into Motril and the second part to find out where they were being stored before distributed for sale.
They first arrested six Moroccan nationals (four men and two women) who allegedly had the task of getting hashish to the Spanish coast from North Africa. They carried out four home searches and found half of the total amount of drugs that would later be confiscated, as well as several thousand euros in cash.
This was followed by hitting the drug-peddling points, which were run by a family clan comprising of five males and three females. This was followed by more home searches and drug & money caches.

Patrick: I used to play in a Spanish rock band and we did a tour of Northern Morocco. Believe me, nobody believes that you aren’t carrying drugs, not the Moroccan border police or the Spanish ones once you get off the ferry.
Very odd. ?? I have been to Morocco five times. Twice to Agadir and three times to so called Marrakech. Well half an hour’s drive away. !! Point is. They seem to be rather strict over there about drugs. Yet most seem to come from there to spain. Perhaps the penalties over there are harsher or the bribes bigger here. !!??
