A body was found in the water off a Nerja beach on Monday afternoon.

The emergency number 112 received a call around 13.30h after a beach user on Playa Burriana saw what looked to be the body of a person floating in the water some 200 metres out to sea.

The emergency call centre alerted the Guardia Civil, Salvamento Marítimo, as well as Cruz Roja, the Policía Local and Protección Civil.

Salvamento Marítimo and Cruz Roja both have launches that could be used to recover the body from the water.

All told, five bodies have appeared off Málaga beaches in the last few days with two in one day. On Sunday the body of a Sub-Saharan woman was found in the area of La Malagueta, whilst three appeared off Torremolinos and Benalmádena. All indications are that they were passengers on an open boat attempting to cross the Med to reach Spain.
