There was a fire onboard a cargo ship docked in Motril Port early this afternoon, which broke out in the hold.
The fire began a little before 15.00h on a ship with a cargo of scrap tied up at the Azucenas Dock.
The cause of the fire is not known at present but it took place during the loading of the cargo. Dock workers saw smoke coming from one of the holds.
The fire was soon extinguished by the Motril fire service and fire personnel have remained to dampening the cargo, which had been unloaded in order to put the fire out without futhe damage to the ship.
Fortunately, nobody was injured and the ship has not been seriously damaged and is in a seaworthy state. The Head of the Port Authorities, José García Fuentes, thanks the fire service for its prompt response.
