Underage Driver Hits Cyclists

SPN Traffic Biker Road CheckOn the 14th of November the Guardia Civil began an investigation into an underage teen driver who managed to knock over two cyclists.

The incident occurred around 12.30h when the said driver at the wheel of an Opel Corsa came upon two cyclists – one of whom was a minor of 13 – and ran into them.

This took place between San Martín and Barredo (Ribadesella, Asturias). Both cyclists were coming in the opposite direction.

Fortunately, the 13-year-old, evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Arriondas, was not seriously injured. The adult was unhurt.

The Guardia Civil identified the driver, who obviously lacked a driving licence given his age, and breathalysed him, which gave a negative reading. A drugs test, however, gave a positive reading.

The driver was charged with causing bodily harm through negligence as well as driving without a valid licence. Causing injuries through negligence can be punished with up to nine years’ imprisonment.
