The Junta has granted another licence for a chiringuito in La Herradura, which has pleased nobody but the Junta and the business owner concerned.
It was on the 21st of last month that the Town Hall was informed by the Junta (Delegación Territorial de Agricultura, Ganadería, Pesca y Desarrollo Sostenible) that they had granted a licence for the next four years to a new beach bar between Restaurante Rebalaje and the beach office of Náutico Dani’s. (more or less in front of Bonache). The new premises will occupy 69 sq/m until the end of 2023.
Now, the reason that local business are not happy about this is because some locals have been behind a licence for literally years with the Junta moving with the speed of a striking sloth – we’re talking about local families with their roots going back at least 40 years.
But this is far from the first of these ‘instant’ Junta licences because with this one the total is twelve in the last few years. It would not be extraordinary that the Junta would grant licences on the coast, if it were not for the fact that the Town Hall has always given a thumbs down for them saying that La Herradura beach is already ‘saturated’ with beach establishments
The Town Hall, for instance, sent a negative report to the Junta in August 2019 because the new establishment would be set up on the exact same spot where the village holds San Jose village fiestas. Furthermore the area was earmarked for a nearby park to be extended into.
The end result of the new licence is over 300 complaints registered, including the other beach establishments as well as from people living in the flats on the other side of the road. The Town Hall will have trouble laying the beach walk ways, including the ones for people with mobility problems – the walkways will now have to go through the outside seating area belonging to the new chiringuito.
Editorial comment: it is worth noting that the Junta and the Almuñécar Town Hall are both governed by the same party, the PP – an unusual confrontation, indeed.
