The Salobreña branch of the far-right party, VOX has criticised Ecologistas en Acción for its negative report on the Playa del Peñon.

Party Spokesman, Manuel Martín, had this to say about  the ecologists’ Black-Flag assignation for the beach: “it is frivolous, lying and harmful, because it is creating doubts – without success, one hopes – about one of the highest-quality beaches on the Andalusian coastline.”

He considers that the ecologist group has continued a running dispute over the TH1 even though it is underway and irreversible: “Each year they repeat the same accusations,” he said, adding that on this occasion it is even more “misguided” because of the difficulties that the tourism sector is experiencing with the Covid-19 situation.

Sr. Martín concluded by saying that it was “incredible” that when tourist destinations are trying to sell themselves there are organisations like Ecologistas en Acción who “dedicate themselves to awarding black flags to beaches that meet all the necessary requirements, by undergoing checks on the water quality etc.”

Editorial comment: Sr. Martín has perhaps forgotten that if it were not for citizen organisations holding town halls to account, politicians would continue to get away with all kinds of underhand and irresponsible activity.
